Putnam Board abolishes planning board by 4-1 vote

NY PUTNAM — Putnam abolishes planning board in 4-1 vote. The Town Board eliminated the Planning Board on May 14 while retaining the Site Plan Review Law, with Supervisor Darlene Kerr, Councilwoman Carole Schneider, and Councilmen Rick Bezio and Charles Bain, Sr. voting yes, and Councilman Mark Karlson voting no. Board members cited resident preferences for elected boards to make governance decisions without Planning Board involvement.
The Board also unanimously adopted a new Local Law on Environmental Protections of Hillsides and Shoreline Areas that requires permits for blasting in protected hillside and shoreline zones and may require engineering studies to ensure safe blasting procedures.
